GNS bulk order milestone
MWL APPARATEBAU GRIMMA GmbH (MAG) has reached an essential milestone. In the context of this large order for GNS Gesellschaft für Nuklear-Service mbH in Essen, Germany, the first two storage casks for Lithuania were completed and delivered to the local GNS interim storage in March 2009. For Dr. Jens Schröder, Director Nuclear Casks at GNS, this was cause enough to hand over the first identification plate personally to the Managing Director of MAG, Dr. Andreas Barg.
Dr. Andreas Barg: “The completion of the first two containers sees the start of a new phase for MAG with the handling of by far the largest individual order in our almost 140-year history.” Within the last months we have coordinated and optimized innumerable details in close cooperation with GNS with regards to manufacturing, quality assurance and documentation. After reaching this milestone the serial production can finally begin. At this point we would like to thank the GNS project associates for their excellent cooperation in this project and in finding solutions for the upcoming challenges which remain in the interests of all involved."
Dr. Jens Schröder: “After several years of development work GNS has also reached an important milestone with the completion of the first casks of this new type. In MAG we have found a reliable partner with whom we have constructively overcome challenges in the start-up phase, and we are now in a position to view the forthcoming serial production optimistically.”
In spring 2007 GNS commissioned MAG for the manufacture and delivery of one hundred CONSTOR? RBMK1500/M2 casks to be used for the disposal of spent nuclear fuel elements from Ignalina powerstation in Lithuania. The delivery of the subsequent casks, each weighing almost 100 to with a length of almost 5 metres, will be carried out up to the second quarter of 2011.
